NAMCYA announces competition categories on its 45th year
2018 marks a milestone for the most prestigious musical competitions for young Filipino musicians.
Founded in 1973, the National Music Competitions for Young Artists (NAMCYA) celebrates 45 years of discovering and developing outstanding young Filipino musical artists. Through the many decades of the competition, it has produced numerous choral groups, rondalla ensembles, and solo instrument artists who are laureates and active performers in the local and international music scene.
The NAMCYA continues to propagate Filipino music through its commissioned works which become part of the Philippine music literature. Likewise, it is instrumental in preserving and nurturing Philippine traditions through the Rondalla and Traditional Music Categories.
NAMCYA Secretary-General Renato B. Lucas is pleased to announce the categories for this year’s competitions:
– Junior Voice
– Junior Piano
– Junior Strings
– Youth Solo Rondalla Instrument
– Children ‘s Rondalla Ensemble
– Youth Choir – Equal Voices
– Youth Choir – Mixed Voices
Traditional Music Category (open for solos and ensembles)
Competition Guidelines will be released on MARCH 15, 2018 via the NAMCYA Website and Social Media pages.
Apart from the annual competitions, workshops and concerts shall take place throughout the year. More details will be made available soon.
